How to play the Sonodrum tongue drum - step-by-step instructions

To fully enjoy the tongue drum you have purchased for yourself and your family, below are the key steps we have compiled for your convenience.

First step: preparing the drum

Before you start playing, it is important to prepare your tongue drum properly. First, turn the Sonodrum tongue drum over so that the tongues are pointing downwards; this orientation is crucial to achieving the desired sound. Then carefully remove the plug from the drum.

This simple adjustment allows the drum to produce a more efficient and resonant sound and enhances your musical experience.

Second step: playing tongues

Hold the drumsticks as shown in the picture. When playing, make sure to hit mainly the center of the tongue. This technique is crucial to produce a clear and high-quality sound. At the beginning, if you hit the Sonodrum tongue drum near its edges, you will notice that the sound is out of tune and unpleasant.

To improve your playing experience, always aim for the central part of the tongue as shown in the last part of the video.

Third step: fingerpicks

You can also use finger picks instead of drumsticks for a different playing experience, although this is optional. Attach the finger picks to the thumb and index finger of each hand and use a total of four finger picks to play the drum.

Again, it is important to hit the center of the tongue to achieve the best sound quality.

Fourth step: Books

You don't need to search for songs from other sources to get the most out of your Sonodrum tongue drum. You can play the popular songs featured in the books included in your set. Our books also provide support through music and video tutorials.

Fifth step: Remove protective film

The numbers on the Sonodrum are covered with a protective film to protect them during transport. To get the most out of the Sonodrum tongue drum, you should remove this protective film before using it for the first time.
